We’re Licensed!

Electricians must be licensed in order to protect both the safety of the public and themselves.

Electricians must demonstrate that they have a level of knowledge and skill required by the local jurisdiction or province in order to earn a license. This helps ensure that electricians are qualified and competent for the job, as electricity can be extremely dangerous if not handled properly.

Licensing also ensures that all relevant laws, codes, and regulations are being followed when doing electrical work. By licensing electricians, regulators can ensure that these guidelines are followed and that any potential hazards that may arise are minimized. In addition to assuring qualified workmanship, licensing can provide other important benefits such as improved customer satisfaction and protection from potential liability or legal claims if something goes wrong during a job. Licensing requires

commitment on the part of the electrician to maintain their knowledge and skills through continued professional development activities such as industry training or certification.

Each Colony Electrical team member is a licensed and certified electrical services provider with decades of experience in the industry. Our electricians are qualified professionals who are trained to strict standards, ensuring that all work completed meets or exceeds applicable codes and regulations. Electricians must obtain a Certificate of Qualification from the Ontario College of Trades in order to practice as a qualified electrician. The Certificate of Qualification ensures that electricians meet the education and experience requirements and have demonstrated their ability to work safely in the electrical trade.

To become certified, electricians must complete an apprenticeship program under a certified Journeyperson or pass an exam administered by the Ontario College of Trades. Apprenticeships typically last four years, including theoretical instruction as well as practical experience, and involve at least 8,000 hours of hands-on training throughout the program. To pass their exams, electricians must demonstrate knowledge of electrical theory, safety procedures, installation techniques, local building codes and

regulations relating to electricity.

In addition to obtaining certification through the Ontario College of Trades, those practicing as an Electrician in Ontario are required to be members in good standing with The Electrical Contractors Association (ECAO). The ECAO provides professional support for its members and establishes ethical standards for all tradespeople working in the industry. Membership also provides access to specialized training programs and other resources which can further enhance qualifications and help members stay

current with changes in technology or regulations related to electricity. By obtaining certification from both the Ontario College of Trades and ECAO, individuals can demonstrate their qualifications and commitment to professional development to ensure they consistently provide quality service that meets all legal requirements while also maintaining public safety.

Overall, licensing is an important part of ensuring public safety by allowing only those with proper credentials to practice as electricians, while also providing important protection for both customers and contractors alike.
